When Laughter Becomes Sanctuary

Have you ever had one of those moments where something goes sideways in the most ridiculous way possible — and instead of getting upset, you just burst into laughter?

Recently, I had one of those moments. And it reminded me of something beautiful about being human.

It started with what should have been a simple part of my morning routine. I grabbed an electric trimmer — not the one meant for delicate work, mind you, but the one I use on my legs — and for reasons I cannot explain, I didn’t fully close my eyelid while touching up my eyebrows.

I blinked.
The trimmer buzzed.
And just like that… a chunk of my eyelashes was gone.

I stood there stunned for half a second — and then I absolutely lost it. I laughed so hard I cried. I walked out to my husband and told him, “You will never guess what I just did,” tears streaming down my face from laughing so intensely.

Later, with mascara on, I optimistically asked him, “See? Better, right?”
His gentle and honest response:
“You might want to wear your sunglasses today… even inside.”

Cue another round of laughter.

But here’s the thing: that moment taught me something important — something that fits perfectly into the cozy, curious heart of Oracle Grove.

Humor Is a Kind of Sanctuary

That morning could have become frustration or embarrassment.
But instead, humor turned it into:

  • a moment of connection
  • a burst of joy
  • a softening of the day
  • a reminder not to take myself too seriously

It struck me that this is part of my cozy: not just blankets and candles, but delight. Humor. Sparkly, spontaneous joy in the face of human clumsiness.

Some people meditate.
Some people journal.
Some people ground themselves with breathwork.
Me? Sometimes I ground myself by laughing at my own mishaps.

Joy is a grounding tool.
Delight is mindfulness in disguise.
Laughter is its own form of magic — a way the heart says, “It’s okay. Try again.”

A Small But Powerful Shift: Let Your Joy In

The world can feel heavy. Busy. Loud.
But moments like this remind me:

We don’t have to be solemn to be mindful.
We don’t have to be perfect to feel grounded.
Sometimes the most healing thing we can do is laugh at the absurdity of life.

Humor doesn’t take away the stress — but it opens a window.
It lets the light in.
It helps us breathe again.

So here’s my gentle invitation:

Let yourself laugh the next time something small goes wrong.
Let delight be part of your self-care.
Let joy be something you cultivate on purpose — not as an escape, but as a way home to yourself.

Sometimes, the coziest magic is simply remembering that we’re human — wonderfully, hilariously human.

A Note on the Fool & The Cycles of Becoming

The Fool is often described as the beginning of the tarot’s Hero’s Journey — Card Zero, the start of an adventure. But the longer I work with tarot, the more I see The Fool not as a single starting point but as a recurring visitor. A reminder. A reset. A whisper that life is not meant to be taken quite so seriously.

We don’t step into the Fool’s energy just once; we return to it again and again — whenever life surprises us, redirects us, or hands us a moment so ridiculous that laughter becomes the only sensible response.

My little eyelash incident? Pure Fool energy. A reset. A reminder that delight is just as important as discipline on this journey.

The Fool invites us to lighten our grip, trust the path, and allow the unexpected to soften us instead of hardening us.
